This Podcast may appear to be a bizarre choice, but when I think of music it does evoke emotion. How does music succeed in prompting emotions within us? And why are these emotions often so powerful? The simple answer is that no one knows.....yet. Music affects us all.It seems that the healing power of music, over body and spirit, is only just starting to be understood, even though music therapy is not new.

David Huron, professor of music, joined the School of Music faculty and the OSU Centre for Cognitive Science in 1998. Although he was trained in performance, Huron has an international reputation for his research in music perception and cognition. This research includes such areas as music and human emotion, and the perception of harmony, voice-leading, and melody. Since graduating in 1989 from the University of Nottingham (England) with a Ph.D. in musicology, Huron has published over 80 scholarly articles.

Professor Huron is currently teaching and researching the field of music cognition at the Ohio State University. He wants to know why people fall in love with music and understand why music is so enjoyable. What makes sound appealing (or unappealing)? Why do people have different musical tastes? How does culture shape our musical experience?

Delicious

Probably the most obvious reason to use Delicious is to organize the content you come across on a daily basis for future use. 

Delicious is an online bookmarking feature which makes it easy to access your bookmarks in places other than just your desktop or laptop. You are able to access your favourite web pages by simply logging into the Delicious site, you can even do this on your phone or PDA. You can also tag your bookmarks which makes it easier to find your favourite pages. I haven't used Delicious much over the last year but I discovered the tab to put on my toolbar, (I am eslow) I will use it more in the future.

Hodding Carter, W. 2006, Flushed: How the Plumber Saved Civilization, Atria Books, Toronto, Can.

I thought this was an unusual book title so I had to find out more information about it. Everything about the history of plumbing and toilets can be found in this book (plus some information that you probably don't want to know).
Not many of us want to be totally open about our bodily functions and their by products or go sewage spelunking through the sewer system under the Thames (Phew!).
William Hodding Carter certainly has much enthusiasm for plumbing, however odd, definitely would be worth reading.
Book Lovers Wiki is archival and has not been updated for several years.

What I think of wikis

Wikis that have a group of users can often provide access to information that may otherwise prove to be obscure and possibly difficult to find. Since wikis are easy to edit, they can provide access to rapidly changing information. I wonder if the collaborative nature of wikis could lead to problems, such as the inappropriate modification of information. Could Wiki security be an issue? Wiki leaks!

How can libraries use wikis?

A wiki could be used to develop an easily editable library website. They could be used to develop subject guides or to generate excitement for upcoming library events.
